If you have a a turbo (which you should on your Ford) and have ever looked at the exhaust side of a turbo you will see that the impeller blades overlap and since sound travels in waves (think of it as a half of a bubble going through your pipe) when the wave gets to the blades it's all most like running into a solid wall as far as the wave is concerned, then having to redirect (bounce) off of the blades to continue down the pipe. I run 4 inch straight, it doesn't make a difference in smoke from what I can tell with or with out mine and it is only louder around 3/4 or more throttle.Ī diesel muffler is straight through so a lot of sound gets through those, I use to work at a muffler manufacturing plant and personally hand built 6 prototypes for GM. 17mpg city and am trying to improve on that. Thanks commrad, does it help out with mpg? i'm running also afe stage II magnum force w/pro-guard, acufab intake elbow, and 100hp tune im avg.
